Last Week we talked about stuff we learned about a Gen Con. This week I am going to look at the squadrons that were not spoiled before Gen Con. I know several in the community have actually played with these guys I have not, so this is really just my initial impressions. Though I am excited for a particular set of these squadrons, so lets dive in
.
Mart Mattin
So this is our TY-2400 Pilot, his ability is interesting he plants proximity mines, if you forfeit his activation during the squadron phase. He is going to take some planning ahead, but you can drop a mine right in the other players path so it can be pretty good, but you do give you your action he would be an interesting ship to use Adar Tallon with activate him normally then toggle the slider drop a mine in the squadron phase.
From my understanding Proximity mines detonate when a ship ends its movement at distance 1 of one, you then roll two blue dice for each hit and crit the ship takes and equal number of damage cards. So proximity mines hit where it counts regardless of shielding, however ships can attack them with their anti-squadron attack, but can only target the mine during that attack.
So I think he could be pretty good as you are more likely than not to get 2 damage with the mines and it goes where it counts. Using him with Adar Tallon is probably how you will get the most value out of him getting him to do something in the squadron phase then plant a mine in the squadron phase to ruin a ships day on the following turn, at the very least should be fun to mess with.
Kanan Jarrus
He is are HWK-290 pilot. He is a crazy raider, like he is really good at giving out raid tokens and nearly impossible to tie down. So with assault he can spend a die with a hit to give out a raid token and his ability also lets him spend a crit as well. You add Toryan Farr to the mix and since he has two blue dice anti-ship you are probably going to be giving out 2 raid tokens every attack. Mix in Cloak, and well he won’t have problems with being engaged and can also reposition easy, rouge is also a nice feature as well. He dose gain a red dice in anti-squadron over the generic HWK so he can spike on squadron attacks, but you want him attacking ships, and with Rex making raid tokens a bit nastier he might be a very nice option.
Malee Hurra
Lastly for the Rebels we have the Scurrg pilot Malee Hurra. Okay so first she drops a blue anti squadron die for a red interesting and she drops a black anti ship dice for a blue so she is slightly worse at everything from a normal scurrg other than on the off chance when she is attacking a squadron she gets 3 damage, so why take her? Well she gives the rebels something they have not had access to guarantied crits in ship to ship combat.
In essence she is the rebel Captain Jonus her effect is very similar except in place of changing something to and accuracy it changes it to a crit, with the additional stipulation that she can only be engaged by one squadron. So if you are playing against her you are really going to want to keep at least two squadrons on her at all times. She is going to go very nicely with Sato not only getting one black crit for sure, but gain teeing increased damage when swapping out your dice for black dice. She is expensive though at 26 points, but she can really do some work in the right list, and she is not bad at bombing ships just incapable of getting 3 damage like other Scurrgs, she is probably the rebel pilot I am most excited to build around
.
So that is the Rebel pilots that are finally fully spoiled, I think each is at least interesting, if not good, I do look forward to messing with each of them, but now no to the empire.
Hondo Ohnaka
Interesting thing of note is hondo is in the Slave I, so running him an Boba Fett together is not possible. So Hondo is like dutch but better in one way worse in another he forfeits his attack to activate a squadron, but because he does not have to deal damage like Dutch does he can bypass escort and that leads us to the second part of his ability. That if the squadron has already been activated you can move that squadron to anywhere within distance one of you. With Rouge this is insane thronging squadrons out of position is huge Intel hiding behind escorts that is no problem. Pull squadrons out of activation range of ships that’s fine too. He is a very good squadron, in dealing with other squadorns and not bad against ships ether solid pick.
Moralo Eval
Okay so this guy I just want to make a list that abuses the crap out of his ability because it would be so funny. You have 4-6 shuttles with fighter coordination teams and or squall you can get this guy to attack a ton of extra times that’s insane. Some has said this is broken, but their a just to many variables, your opponate can take advantage of, and sure if they don't bring squadrons you can just go crazy, but to take him out wont require a huge investment in anti squad tech and if something is built supper heavly around abusing him, well there list falls apart to a simple anti squadron investment.
His antisquadorns is strong, and even without bomber he is likely to get one damage every time he attacks a ship. I do think he is a squadron that will help bring life to Imperial token farming, even if you don’t go extreme and try to get 8+ extra attacks every turn with this guy you will still get a lot value out of token farming with this guy in your fleet as he will help supplement your shuttles attacks.
Tel Trevura
So he is a scatter escort I mean that is really the main part of his ability so long as one of your tokens is green, so you can theoretically turn escort off by spending both tokens. And even if they keep attacking you if you discard a token you go back up to 3 hull even if you die! So this guy is just that annoying guy that sticks around he is in essence if you can pull it off a 10 hull escort with brace and scatter, so I mean if you want someone that is really hard to kill that your opponent has to attack at least a few time each round he is probably your best option.
Well that is my initial impressions of the squadrons that are upcoming, and I am just so excited to mess around with them. Next week we will look at objectives and my first impressions about them, but until then Have A Wonderful Week!
