2nd Wave of Clone Wars What We Know.

Well we got some new info about about the next wave of clone wars ships this week and we are just going to do a quick evaluation of what we know about the ships. So lets get started looking at these ships.

Pelta

We have the Transport Frigate, and medical frigate, and at the very least the medical frigate has the same defense tokens as the rebel pelta and so the transport likely has the same. This means that they will be just as deceptively hard to kill.

We have not seen the transport frigate's stat side of the card, but with it being cheaper then medical frigate it has to have at the very least a lower squadron value. I am currently at a loss as to why the transport is cheaper then the medical frigate. I guess it has less range, but it has a defensive retrofit and two red dice out the rear so for 49 points you have a cheap and solid salvo ship. I can only think that this pack will have some type of cards that require the medical ship trait and that is where the value of taking the medical frigate will come from.

Recusant

Weirdest arcs in the game and its a weird deceptive ship with its wide front arc you might think at first this is a ship that wants to be part of a gun-line that changes in however this is not the case this is a broadside ship. So its arcs are set up in a way that you can fly this as a broadside ship and still very easily double arc from your front. Its also the cheapest large base ship in the game with the light destroyer coming in at 85 points and the support destroyer at 90

The ship has a brace evade redirect and salvo, the salvo will be more useful on the support and it changes a black out the rear for a blue, but that is a very nice token suite. Its nav chart is not terrible and the support is not a bad carrier option ether, and 8 hull makes these guys pretty though. I am very interested in flying this ship.

Providence

So this is the first ship that both variants actually cost the same at 105 points. You have the Carrier and Dreadnought versions. We have not seen the stat side of the card for the dreadnought version, but I feel it is safe to assume it will have a lower squadron value then the carrier. The providence speed 3 is horrendous, but it is an option to close into close range very quickly but man the yaw is honestly the worst of any ship in the game at speed 3.

The trad off between the two upgrade bar wise is the carrier has a defensive retrofit and fleet command, and the dreadnought changes thoughts out for a weapons team and extra turbolaser slot, the dreadnought also changes a blue to a red out its side and instead of two black anti-flack its one blue. I can see the value of both, however I think with an officer like Rune Haako its just to easy to get your fleet command to trigger and I think the Carrier will be the best option at least until we get more interesting turbolaser combos.

Venator

The most iconic ship from the clone wars will be arriving in the next wave. The Venator II is unfortunately largely a mystery to us. However we do know that it has squadron 5, so it is possible for this guy if he has an offensive retrofit to push 7 squadrons with a token, that is insane especially if it can take flight controllers, an I think that is likely. That will be so devastating in the squadron game, however we have no idea about price or its armament, but simply because of that it will see time on the table, an I have a felling it might be one of if not the most significant price hikes between two ship variants.

The Venator-I will be extraordinarily nice for the republic at 90 points its fairly cheap and the fleet command gives the republic the ability to take Intensify firepower, and that will help with Republic consistency something I think as a faction they kind of struggle with just the ships in the starter. It is also deceptively stronger then many think with access to salvo and 3 dice out the rear that's pretty great and then 6 out the front 4 out the side, this ship at 90 points can really lay the hurt on at close range with a double arc for only a 90 point ship, but just taking this ship with only a fleet command is an option and that alone will really boost the republic.

I feel like right now the separatists are just an amazing faction with just the starter box and squadron pack, and these ships will just fill out the faction and give it more options. The Republic in my opinion feels like its missing something as a faction, and I am optimistic that these new ships will give them the push they need to really come into their own. April cant come soon enough and I am very excited to get all these new ships to the table as soon as possible Until next time have a great week!
