So I could keep writing about upgrades and other changes that are coming, but I want to put my betting chips down early, now I don't think we will get a whole lot of play time in with the new toys in the clone war starter boxes before we get the second wave of clone wars and I think both factions at that point while maybe not having as many options, will be competitive, but I want to say I think that the CIS can lay down a fairly competitive list right from the starter set and squadron packs. I hope we get more info soon, but here is my thought behind the CIS being competitive on release day.
First the Munificent if on release I think it will pretty much be the best medium based ship in the game. 4 dice out the front 3 out the side you are going to drop a lot of annoying damage over and over again. Also its navigation chart you can just set this thing at speed two and you really won't have to worry too much about navigation commands getting the II yaw on the first joint can be nice, but not necessary.
Next you go your as some have called it “pocket Piett” in the T-Series Tactical Droid.
With this guy you get such an amazing amount of flexibility and very powerful activations, in addition your fleet support will come on a ship that can pack a bit more of a punch than a flotilla adding in extra firepower other factions might not have access to and still get the fleet support upgrades you need. Lastly you have the hyena bomber, while we don't have much info about them, we do know that when they activate they get to add a die to their battery armament of a color that is already in their armament making them a double die bomber and that's just good, you won't have black die bomber to get two black dice, but regardless of if it's red or blue in your armament you will be doing 1.5 damage on average with blue being more constant, and red having a higher peak.
The big issue is we don't know point cost for most CIS ships, we can however make reasonable guesses and try to leave room for a margin of error and well we get something like this.
Munificent-class Comms Frigate (70)
• Kraken(30)
• T-series tactical droid (4)
= 104 Points
Munificent-Class Comms Frigate (70)
• T-series tactical droid (4)
= 74 Points
Hardcell support refit (50)
• Hondo Okanaka (2)
• Comms net (2)
= 54 Points
Hardcell support refit (50)
• Comms net (2)
= 52 Points
Squadrons:
• 6 x Hyena Class Bombers (60)
• 6 x Vulture Droid (48)
= 108 Points
Total Points: 392
So I end up with 8 points of wiggle room, and it's a weird list, but I think it has potential Kraken is our dice fixing and we are working with small amounts of dice so that should be okay in most cases. We do have to set Kraken up but that should not be to big of an issue. Comms net and the tactical droid with hondo effectively give both frigates at least two turns where they will get two commands. The squadron wing is really strange but I wanted to play it really safe with so many unknowns, however once we get a more solid idea the prices of the squadrons that can be fleshed out, but as is we have 10 deployments with the squadrons and sure we can't activate them all, and as you can probably see each group has a very particular roll to play. Vultures kill the squadrons then Hyenas start bombing this gives us deployment advantage, and a good amount of flexibility.
Maybe I have just gone crazy, but I think a list with this much flexibility and ability to deliver small but consistent amounts of damage could really be good. What do you think? How do you think the clone war factions will measure up to Galactic civil war factions on release? What are some the weird Ideas that you hope to try with the limited info we have? I am sure Clone Wars Factions will be able to hold their own by the second wave of clone wars but I think they might have a fighting chance right from the get go. Until next time have a great week
