A More Civilized Age: Armada Nostalgia Double Gladiator

Recently I saw a list with two Gladiators on the table and it just took me back to the very beginning of armada one of my favorite lists to fly was Imperial MSU particularly this list:

Gladiator I (56)

• Admiral Screed (26)

• Ordnance Experts (4)

• Engine Techs (8)

• Assault Proton Torpedoes (5)

• Demolisher (10)

• Assault Proton Torpedoes (5)

= 48 Points

Raider I (44)

• Assault Proton Torpedoes (5)

= 48 Points

Squadrons:

= 0 Points

Total Points: 389

There is just a cool aesthetic to having two gladiators across the table, and demolisher is just so obligatory I had kind of forgotten how good gladiators are even without demolisher though demolisher should almost always be your first gladiator something I wish would change, I dont know how that would happen without a near-complete rework of the card. All that aside I just could not help myself from building a few lists that had two gladiators and even one list that does not have a demolisher. I just had this little nostalgia kick and I need just a few more games to feel completely comfortable giving final thoughts on the last few GAR things so this is what we are doing on this week’s AMM.

Assault: Most Wanted

Gozanti Cruisers (23)

• Parts Resupply (3)

• Reserve Hangar Deck (3)

Squadrons:

• 4 x TIE Fighter Squadron (32)

= 32 Points

Total Points: 397

This list will rely heavily on the ACM HIE combo Screed helps make crits happen particularly if you need two crits because evade could put a kink in your plan. With Targeting scrabblers and Iden on one GSD and Brunson on another they are going to be pretty durable. You have a fighter group that can tie down a squad ball for a little bit as well. If you end up the second player force engagement around a rift if possible to keep ships slow and in black range, both demolisher and even insidious can keep chucking black dice at fleeing ships, particularly with a well-timed G-8 use. Needa makes the durable interdictor even more durable and engineering tokens from Parts resupply adds an extra edge of durability to all your ships. It might not be the best matchup against an Onager, unfortunately, but it seems like a fun well rounded list with some cool synergies, and those kinds of lists are the lists I really enjoy playing, and might this satisfy that double GDS itch for me.

Gladiator I (56)

• Ordnance Experts (4)

• Medical Team (1)

• External Racks (4)

• Demolisher (10)

= 61 Points

Raider I (44)

• Iden Versio (6)

• Ordnance Experts (4)

• Quad Laser Turrets (5)

• External Racks (4)

• Instigator (4)

= 67 Points

Squadrons:

• 2 x Firespray-31 (36)

= 36 Points

Total Points: 393

I have been wanting to return to Imperial MSU and this does that with the double GSD fix as well. It is a pretty simple list all things considered the GSDs do the heavy lifting and the Arquitens provide supporting fire. Iden+Instigator is a flexible ship that can help in the squad game against squad heavy lists or add more firepower against ship lists. The same goes for the two Firesprays they can simply support Instigator in the squad game or punish ships with their double blue bomber armament. As a bit of a side note I think Insidious is better than a lot of people give it credit for you are not going to use it in every game, but “back in the day” Insidious killed a few ships I would not have been able to kill otherwise so I think it’s worth the 3 points in most cases when brining two GSDs.

Imperial II (120)

• General Romodi (20)

• Captain Brunson (9)

• Gunnery Team (7)

• Early Warning System (7)

• SW-7 Ion Batteries (5)

• Linked Turbolaser Towers (7)

• Seventh Fleet Star Destroyer (5)

= 180 Points

Gladiator II (62)

• Skilled First Officer (1)

• Ordnance Experts (4)

• Medical Team (1)

• External Racks (4)

• Seventh Fleet Star Destroyer (5)

= 77 Points

Gladiator II (62)

Gozanti Cruisers (23)

• Munitions Resupply (3)

• Reserve Hangar Deck (3)

= 30 Points

Squadrons:

• 4 x TIE Fighter Squadron (32)

Total Points: 396

So here is a weird one I did something like this a while ago two seventh fleet GSD and one ISD It really mitigates incoming damage. I have also had this weird GSD II Romodi thing going on in my head because if the GSD II has a double arc and both are obstructed Romdi makes the GSD II a pretty decent long-range ship, especially with a con fire. Now you don’t have re-rolls but con fire tokens and Darth Vader officer fodder helps with that. I know it’s super weird but it’s just one of those things I want to try and it seems like a good list to run to satisfy that double GSD itch I have.

What are some things that you have run in the past that you thought were fun or cool on the table? What are some out-of-the-norm things you want to try? Until next time have a great week!
