Armada 1.5 relook at ships: The Little guys.

So all ships have had some kind of change at least indirectly but since there are so many ship we are just going to break it up a little bit so we are going to look at all the Small ships as they have benefited quite a bit from the evade changes so let's look at these evade ships and their titles.

Arquitens

with a single evade it may not seem like they have changed much, however now it give you some extra suitability at medium and close range and why is this important well your defensive retrofit. You are going to start seeing Reactive Gunnery on Arquitens and its nasty and you will likely see more Command Cruiser variations of the Arquitens because of the blue die out the rear for salvo and hanging out in that range is now no longer as dangerous and you start getting a lot of value from using reactive to salvo. In addition because activation are no longer a thing the squadron 2 on the command cruiser could become important as you can have it supplement your squadron activation in place of a gozonti. Let's look at the titles.

Centicore

I think is a good way to get an extra relay type effect in your list in addition to Colonel Jendon as until he gets changed will be im pretty much every Imperial list. Its a fine upgrade and can do well in the right list and right hands.

Hand of Justice

its value has gone up first its use with a salvo token is very nice, but now with reactive you can ready the token that was used to trigger reactive so they can you the tokens normal effect without having to discard the token. In addition the same goes for evade this can help a friend that only has one evade from having to discard it before they would like to thinking another Arquitens or a Needa ship. You also still have all its normal things like readying a brace to get some more value out of it etc. I think its might finally have a break out moment in 1.5.

CR-90

Again they are just so much more survivable with double evade you can discard evades to really reducible damage when you need it. Craken is probably king when it comes to long range engagement though I personally hate his speed 3 requirement its just not may playstyle. However the evade buff along Mon Mothmas might just be enough to bring the CR-90 B back into the game. SW-7s make it the most reliable ship in the game and with the ability to tank damage so much better at medium range these guys might become the rebellions new consistent damage dealers. You also always have heavy Ion Emplacements for more Raw Damage. If you are looking to build a Mon Mothma fleet don't forget that CR-90 Bs do exist and can get great value from her.

Dodonna's Pride

I had a build I liked with this card but now that double Ram is dead really for the best and leading shots is more expensive I would stay away from this card. it's better to just take SW-7s and get consistent damage that will do far more for you in the long run in almost every situation. it is a shame that this card did not get a rework.

Jaina's Light

is still the same good card it will likely always be on your first CR-90 though I think it might have some competition.

Liberator

Its main use seams to be all fighters follow me, and Rebel squadrons seam to have gotten a boost since some of the powerhouse Imperial balls got hit a bit with the ace cap so this might see more play, and now that tokens are more important maybe having a one off fleet command will be nice.

Tantive IV

I think Tantive IV's stock goes up and might compete with Jainas light you are no longer needing to fight for activation advantage so you might as well take a more shooty ship to get tokens to the ships that really need them and since tokens value have gone up this guys value also goes up.

Gladiators

I really don't have a whole lot to say with the gladiator it just got more survivable with a better evade however I could see my weird screed Local fire control teams becoming a thing now since demolisher has to stay in the fight to get its attacks off and both black crits have now become exhaust its weird, but since screed is once per activation you can always get two damage on your close range salvo attacks, however you either give up your evade or redirect for that weird effect.

Insidious

I am just skipping over demolisher as we already talked about that and it's not going anywhere and well Insidious is still blah it's fine for what it is but still just kinda bad. It will always be 2nd to demolisher probably even 3rd because of the other title this ship can take. If you have a second Gladiator and have 3 points to spare take it I have had it make a difference before.

Seventh Fleet Star Destroyer

it has been shown to work well in a competitive setting as a support ship to an ISD. I think this will hold true in 1.5. I think it is also worth noting that the GSD II becomes a much more interesting prospect with its double blue anti-squad in a more generic heavy squadron game.

GR-75s more durability thanks to the evade buff I would likely still just stay away from the Combat Retrofits, but the Transport is just fine and even just a little bit better.

Bright Hope

with the evade change this ship will likely never die if you are going to take the combat refits make sure you con fire and bring this.

Quantum Storm

Slicers took a hit so quantum storm is not quite as good, however you are more durable in the slicer tools range and being able to possibly get out of a scary arc is always nice and for one point you really can't complain to much.

Gozanti

like GR-75s they are going to be even more difficult to kill because of the evade buff, so that that for what it is, Assault Carriers are just so fun with Romodi, and the utility of the non assault version is really nice they won't cease to see play but when you see them it will be a reason beyond activation padding.

Vector

has always been an underrated title giving some extra speed to the empires speed 4 squadrons is really nice and for only 2 points. If you wanted to go crazy you could use Vector and Chiraneau for some speed 3 squadrons that can move while engaged seams pretty good to me if a little pricey. However even just that little extra speed for your fighter screen to get into the best possible position in the new fighter game is going to be very helpful.

Suppressor

no longer minds hanging out in medium range quite as much with the evade buff so it's a bit of a buff to him.

Hammerheads

really for these guys its extra durability particular for the torpedo they might not always be a suicided external racks ship any more, not to mention that now that black crits are a bit cheaper and are exhaust they are a bit more tempting to take on a torpedo hammerhead.

Garel's Honer

is a bit more appealing you can use your evade to re-roll dice and close range so ramming is not always near certain death anymore so it's a much more interesting choice.

Task Force Antilles

okay so this is where things I think can get kinda interesting. You take task force and expert shield techs I know a bit expensive, however Task Force becomes your redirect and now you have some really nice damage mitigation potential with an evade and a redirect that reduces the damage by 1 I think this is a much more interesting title to take.

Task Force Organa

went up in value ordnance experts only re-rolls 2 dice now so there are not many reasons to take that over this title any more.

Raider

So our last ship on the empires side with evades and probably the ship that loves 1.5 the most is the raider. I have always loved the raider, and it is back and that is so exciting for me. First evades do something at close and you can just use them and get out of the fight it's so nice, but it does not stop there. Squadrons are now easier to tie down and well that makes it so much easier for a Raider to utilize is amazing anti-squad potential. Looking forward I can see a light imperial screen supplemented with a Raider really wreaking havoc on squadron builds I am very excited to get raiders back to the table.

Corvus

Always nice get to place raider last to make sure it gets where it needs to be.

Impetuous

I really think that the imperial light screen combined with a raider with this title will just rip apart squad balls, with generics being so common this will likely always deal two damage so it effectively becomes your "delet this squadron" button.

Instigator

it can be nice, to keep squadrons tied down when you have a small screen, but a raider can take Reserve Hangar deck to keep that small screen coming back right where it needs to be in the squadron fight.

From here on out it's all rebel so lets go.

MC-30s

So the crit effects nerf really does not help these guys, but the evades help quite a bit running these guys without a title seems like a very viable thing to do. You are probably always going to see external racks on these guys, but I can see a case for ACM when paired with a few HIE CR-90 Bs its a bit of a wash they are going to have more staying power, but less hitting power with some of the crit effect nerfs, in essence they wont net you a bunch of points by themselves but they are not going to bleed points as easily.

Foresight

Won't talk about Admonition again as we have already done that in this long 1.5 series, However Foresight oh man Foresight is hot right now. I have always loved Foresight I even painted one of my MC-30's to be more silver to match the artwork on the card and it is ready to take hits arguably better then Admontion was able to man its so good. This is your MSU flagship title for rebels period. You should look to see a lot of this guy.

Mon Calamari Exodus Fleet

I think this is really interesting, I feel that engineering commands have become a bit more important in 1.5, and now that MC-30s are a bit more durable with the evade change this with an ackbar MC-80 super tank could be something worth looking at.

Nebulon-B

So I don't have much to say other than your more durable I really think Nebulons have started to come back into the game and I think this gives them that little bit extra push to get them back into the mainstream.

Redemption

it's a bit overpriced wished it got looked at, however being able to move 2-3 shields around to where they need to be with just a token can be really nice so maybe, but it's again a bit pricey for nice.

Salvation

are you using the nebulon as a gunship? yes, well then why don't you have this title on it? Okay you don't have the points otherwise you should take this.

Vanguard

I was hoping this would be a good title, but what weapons team does the nebulon want? The one I keep coming back to is Local fire control teams, but then I am not sure I want the redirect now its just kind of an awkward card I am sure it has its place, but it's hard for me to zero in on.

we already talked about Yavaris in this 1.5 series but basically Yavaris is now anti ship card primarily and not anti-squad and ship. Last up the pelta.

Pelta

The Pelta has always been deceptively hard to kill and this evade change only increases that. I have made good use of the Assault Peltas anti-squadron attack and with more generics I think that will be helpful to smaller screen rebel list so they may see a rise in use. They will always be primarily included for the fleet command and that is okay.

Phoenix Home

getting an extra officer slot can be nice, but there are not much uses for that on a small base ship however the Captain Rex and Flight Commander Combo might be worth looking at again, also I kinda like its interaction when paired with Tantive IV and Garm to get 3 tokens.

That's it for all the evade ships, but next time we will be looking at the big guys. Hope everyone had a good Christmas, and until next time have a great week!
