Bailing You Out

This week we are going to look at commander Bail Organa for the Republic. Upfront Bail is a solid commander and will fit into pretty much any list. There is not a whole lot to say about him, but we will look at why he is such a solid choice, and why you can put him almost anywhere and find success, but he definitely has a place where he shines a bit more.

Bail is Thrawn like but you only get 5 total commands to split between all your ships, not a single dial that is just given to all your ships, and they are limited to navigation and engineering. This means Bail can not protect your carriers from slicer tools as Thrawn can for the empire. However, he still lets ships resolve multiple commands in one turn. In most cases, this will be letting your squadron pusher also resolve a navigation command.

In most cases you really only want to use Bail for one ship because of this Bail works really well in LMSU (Large+Multipul Small Units) type of lists where Bail primarily supports your big point investment. In most cases in this type of build, I have found 3 navs and two engineering to be the go two dumping tokens starting turn 3 dump A nav and engineering if you need it 4 nav and engineering, 5 nav and engineering if you did not spend it turn 3. This keeps your big point investment where it needs to be and alive it also makes it much harder to kill.

You can so split Bail between two ships, but I would not recommend more. If you are doing this 4 navs and one engineering for emergency use is pretty solid it gives you 2 turns of navigation on both ships and something to help keep the one that is in trouble alive. Bails navigate commands can be particularly helpful for acclamators.

Bails only place he really does not care to be in is an MSU list the small ships really don’t get enough value out of him I mean I guess you could have one turn where all your ships con fire while still getting to nav, but for only one turn of that is not really worth 28 points. Aside from that Bail is a solid commander, and if you have a republic list that you really like the idea of but are not sure who should be your commander Bail will likely fit the bill he is just so flexible simple and all-around good commander. How do you use Bail? What combinations have you found him to be particularly good in? Until next time have a great week!
