Don't Sleep on Slicer Tools

This week’s AMM is going to be a bit of a shorter one, but I want to talk about Slicer Tools briefly. It is a card that really does not see a ton of play, and with its recent nerf I was thinking it was gone forever. However, like everything I had to try it at least once, and that lead to a second time and a third and a fourth. I am not sure what it is, but I feel like I have gotten a lot more value out of Slicer tools than I have in the past.

I first gave slicer tools a spin while I was testing out a mass pelta list. One pelta had parts resupply and two others had slicer tools. Against a carrier fleet, your opponent will have a hard time pushing their squadrons. Also having an engineering token ready to ready slicers is not that difficult, however, you will almost always want to bank a token turn one so you can ready it since slicer tools starts exhausted.
I then tried it out in a TF-1726 list. This was mostly to protect my Jedi Hostage ship from getting Jedi hostage exhausted. However I found out how well it pairs with raid tokens if you flip a dial to something they have a raid token for they will likely just distance the dial, but that means no command and that can hinder your opponent. From here I tried it out with Dooku to some limited success and then again in a rebel list with Captian Rex it was pretty solid.
Hardcell Transport (47)
• Tikkes (2)
• Slicer Tools (7)
= 56 Points
GR-75 Medium Transports (18)
• Captain Rex (5)
• Slicer Tools (7)
= 30 Points
I have also gotten a lot better at reading the game table. For example, I can see that this ship could get away if it had a nav command, but would be unable to otherwise. This comes with a lot of practice and experience flying different ships. Sometimes I have had slicer tools be the reason I was able to get the kill on a ship.

In short, don’t sleep on slicer tools, it is better than you think. I am glad I gave it a try as it has proven pretty useful. I think it is a strong pick in a list that has a token generation commander but does just fine across the board. It synergies well with raid though that can be a bit of an investment, it’s not bad at all. How have you seen slicer tools used? Do you think it has a place even after the nerf why or why not? Until next time have a great week!
