We recently had LVO one of the first major Armada tournaments we have had in a while. While I was unable to attend myself I enjoy looking at the lists much like everyone else and there was one list that did well that caught my eye. This is mostly because it was an archetype that I had not seen in a while and one that I had enjoyed in the past Imperial MSU.

Total Points: 399
After seeing this it got me excited to try and bring back imperial MSU. This list seems to have a squadron strategy and most MSU lists were a bit lighter on squadrons so I wanted to build off this list and make something with a few more ships.

Gozanti Cruisers (23)
= 23 Points
Squadrons:
• 3 x TIE Fighter Squadron (24)
• Firespray-31 (18)
= 42 Points
Total Points: 396
5 “real” ships is a fairly rare sight at least from my experience in the game nowadays. Arquitens can deliver consistent damage from range and Demolisher and the two raiders can deal a good chunk of burst damage. Gozanti is extra activation and can bank a squad token turn one to push the 3 ties and the Firespray can act independently ether help tie up squads or go on a bombing run on its own. 3 ties can buy you a turn maybe 2 if you are lucky and the firespray annoying enemy ships might pull a fighter away from your opponent's main group.
Arquitens Light Cruiser (54)
• General Romodi (20)
• Expert Shield Tech (5)
• Reinforced Blast Doors (5)
• Linked Turbolaser Towers (7)
= 91 Points

Arquitens Light Cruiser (54)
• Director Krennic (8)
• Reinforced Blast Doors (5)
• Slaved Turrets (6)
= 73 Points
Gozanti Assault Carriers (28)
• Wulff Yularen (7)
• Parts Resupply (3)
= 38 Points
Gozanti Assault Carriers (28)
• Commander Vanto (7)
• Parts Resupply (3)
= 38 Points
Squadrons:
• Bossk (23)
• Morna Kee (27)
• Tel Trevura (17)
• IG-88B (21)
= 88 Points
Total Points: 396
This one is about the long-range using Wulff and Vanto on the Assault Carriers to have a con fire ready for re-rolls with Romodi and a con-fire dial can make them fairly scary. We also have an independent and versatile squadron wing Tel helps protect IG for some fun shenanigans as well. RBD makes your Arquitens pretty annoying to bring down, and parts resupply keeps shields where they need to be on the Arquitens. It seems like an interesting list at least to me.
Quasar Fire I (54)
• Admiral Sloane (24)
• Minister Tua (2)
• Flight Controllers (6)
• Boosted Comms (4)
• Reserve Hangar Deck (3)
• Pursuant (2)
• Electronic Countermeasures (7)
= 102 Points
Arquitens Light Cruiser (54)
• Captain Needa (2)
• Turbolaser Reroute Circuits (7)
= 63 Points
Arquitens Light Cruiser (54)
• Director Krennic (8)
• Slaved Turrets (6)
= 68 Points
Gozanti Cruisers (23)
• Reserve Hangar Deck (3)
= 26 Points
Gozanti Cruisers (23)
• Reserve Hangar Deck (3)
= 26 Points
Squadrons:
• Colonel Jendon (20)
• Maarek Stele (21)
• Ciena Ree (17)
• Valen Rudor (13)
• 4 x TIE Interceptor Squadron (44)
= 115 Points
Total Points: 400
This last one is a bit of a cheat as it is not technically MSU as it has a medium ship, but it “feels” MSU. A Quasar is a scary choice for a flagship, but it should stay out of range of most things other than an onager, and with the ability to go speed 3 and ECM it should be able to flank an onager without taking too much damage. The Arquitens can hit pretty hard making Sloane’s ability to strip defense tokens pretty valuable, and your opponent will be hard-pressed to win the squadron battle.
I don't think the old days of black dice Imperial MSU will return with GDS and Raiders no a days some red dice just is necessary, however I am hopeful of the possibilities Imperial MSU might have. What are your thoughts on Imperial MSU? Do you think it could make a comeback? What are some of your favorite MSU lists Imperial or otherwise until next time have a great week!
