The Acclamator: Don't Get Clammy

This week’s AMM is about the Republic Acclamator. After several plays with the Acclamator, it is pretty apparent that it’s pretty good, its also a ship that can fill two rolls either a carrier or a battleship I think it has issues filling both and we will get to that, but let’s dive in a look at the Acclamator.

First the Acclamator I is a very solid ship and with two offensive retrofits, it can fit nicely into the carrier role. Without a defensive retrofit, it can be a bit more fragile than you would think, but it can still take a hit or two. The biggest issue the Acclamator has is its nav chart and this is what I think makes it hard to command squadrons and stay on target as not having a click on the last joint makes it a bit more difficult to keep your front on target though with practice this can become less of an issue or if you are using commander Bail.

Despite that, I really think if you are going to be taking an Acclamator in more of a battleship role you are going to want a navigate command dialed in to get the extra clicks you need. I also think that taking a Venator with the Take Evasive Action is a pretty good option as well and it has been pretty effective for me.

As far as the offensive retrofits go you have pretty much 3 choices Expanded Hangers, Reserved Hanger Deck, and Boosted comms if you are making the Acclamator 1 a carrier. If you want to go the battle ship route I did have success with flack guns and DBYs backed but by an IF Venator, boarding troopers is also a really good option especially when you double arc and you use ex-racks out your side tokens will be gone after your activation, or you got a huge chunk of damage to stick.

The Acclamator II trades in both its offensive retrofits for a defensive retrofit and gains one blue die out the front for a 5 point increase. It may not seem like much but 5 points are pretty cheap for an extra die in armada, also that defensive retrofit can make this guy really tough. The Acclamator II is 29 points cheaper than the Venator II the other big ship with a defensive retrofit. Because of that, the Acclamator II is a pretty good bang for your buck though flagship and it fills that role really well in lists that are not utilizing a Venator.

It still has squadron 3, but if you are looking for a carrier roll the Acclamator one is your best bet, but for a battleship, the Acclaamator II is hard to compete with point for point. At 86 points you get a ship that will deal out consistent damage at a similar level to a Venator for just a little cheaper, add in a defensive retrofit and you could be arguably tougher than a Venator I for just a few points more.

Acclamator II (71)

• Ordnance Experts (4)

• External Racks (4)

• Linked Turbolaser Towers (7)

= 86 Points

Acclamator II (71)

• Ordnance Experts (4)

• Electronic Countermeasures (7)

• External Racks (4)

• Linked Turbolaser Towers (7)

= 93 Points

Acclamator II (71)

• Ordnance Experts (4)

• Thermal Shields (5)

• External Racks (4)

• Linked Turbolaser Towers (7)

= 91 Points

I have also found this ship to be the ship I like Clone Gunners and Swivel mount batteries on the most and it can deal a very deadly one punch, at the cost of some consistency.

Acclamator II (71)

• Clone Gunners (4)

• External Racks (4)

• Swivel-Mount Batteries (8)

= 87 Points

The consistency issue is not as bit of a deal as it may first seem you will spend a con-fire token so you get a reroll there and if you back it up with IF on a Venator I you have some fixing there as well. With 6 out the front normally add 2 from ex-rack one from swivel mounts and the blue die set to an accuracy with clone gunners you have 10 dice and it hurt. 5 of your dice are black so supper consistent and has high damage potential the one red can be fixed with the token you spent to trigger clone gunners the other from IF it’s mean. Sure it can only do that once, but if it gets another close-range attack it can still have 8 dice with one for sure accuracy. Don’t sleep on the potential of the Acclamator II as a battleship I think it is a bit overlooked.

After playing with both Acclamators my impression of the Acclamator I seemed about right, and I was personally pleasantly surprised by the Acclamator II. Some people are struggling to find an identity with the republic faction and currently, it seems like it’s all tied up in squadrons, due to some of their ships being a little lackluster as far as firepower, but the Acclamator II might surprise you for its point cost. Until next time have a great week!
