Upgrade Update I

So everything is still up in the air, with all the updates coming so until we get more information things are going to do a lot more speculating and once we get info about the changes and we start to see the complete picture we can dive right back into the evaluations of the game game state and all the other things we have talked about in the past, but until then I don't want to say X and then a rules change makes X no longer applicable so this will the the first in a series about what upgrade cards could use some revision, it will run until we know the changes coming in the upgrade card pack. We will talk about an upgrade that could use an update, along with a title and commander. The one thing I am not sure is if the upgrade pack has ship titles in it or not, maybe that info is out there but I am unaware of it so for the time being we will assume they will be in the pack, and without further ado let's dive right now in.





One of the few cards I have never seen an opponent put on the table Veteran Captain.





I actually liked him in on a niche roll on a comms net flotilla pop him pass his token and still get to resolve your command. It was a bit pricey for one token and I think that is really where the change is needed. However his stock is likely to go up in that now we have cards that need tokens to refresh, but 3 points and the officer slot for that still seems pretty steep. Really I think if he costed 1 point and in conjunction with some of the exhaust effects needing a token to refresh now he could become a good option for that officer slot. Another way to work around this would be to keep him at the same price point, but the ship gains a veteran token that would be 2 on demand tokens seams fair at 3 points, though that adds veteran tokens to the base game for just one card, so I don't think that is to likely. I do honestly think Veteran Captain could see play with the right adjustments.


Independence might be the worst title in the game if not it's definitely down there.





Independence limiting a squadrons ability to attack if it gets the speed boost really kills it especially at 8 points. The Empire gets about the same effect with squall and we all know how good that title is. I really think this card was balanced around the idea that the rebels have relativity cheap two die bombers and the empire does not. So I think if we change the last part to be “Squadrons that change speed in this way if they attack a ship or squadron this activation the attack is treated as obstructed.” I would also say a point decrease would be nice as well. I think this would make Independence a much more interesting choice it honestly needs some change in order to see play and this seems to be the simplest way to do that.


Last up our commander Commander Sato.





Really he needs to be cheaper he has a cool effect but it's hard to fit everything into a list to make him work. I know that ship point reductions and upgrade card cost reductions might make him the right price as is, but I do have my doubts, as is he should probably be between 22-25 points just the few extra points to squeeze in one squadron or that important crit upgrade.
